The day after Thanksgiving with Mimi, Paw-Paw, and our Birmingham cousins

The boys' last day of school was Wednesday, November 9th.  We were sad to say goodbye to all of our friends and teachers at DRES, but we look forward to staying in touch and seeing everyone again next year! Thursday (11/10) we headed to Huntsville for a visit with Mimi and Paw Paw, Uncle Paul, cousins Sydney and Avery, and Uncle Pat.  From there, we headed for one last long warm week at the beach before we head to chilly Germany!  We had a great time, and the first week of homeschool while we were there worked out really well.  We ALL enjoyed it much more than we expected ;-). We had homeschool every morning, and then we spent our afternoons at the beach.  So far we're focusing on handwriting (combined with German in the form of German tongue-twisters, or "Zungenbrecher") spelling, vocab, reading, and math.

After our first week of homeschool, we returned to Auburn for Thanksgiving and enjoyed making Thanksgiving dinner and spending some more time with Mimi and Paw Paw, Uncle Tommy, Uncle Greg and Aunt Tanya, and cousins Jonah and Joshua.  The dinner and the company were great.  We are looking forward to catching up with our family and friends in Germany, but we are truly going to miss seeing our family and friends in the US while we are away.  I think right now that I'm having a harder time than the kids when it comes to stomaching all of the "goodbyes."

We started packing over the weekend and the shift to cold weather today (it should stay chilly for the remainder of the week) should be good prep for the German climate!  More to come from Hayden and Evan soon! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

You'll notice that there are a few pictures up from Hayden's last day at DRES...I was able to post two pics, but I've been having problems uploading more since then.  Some highlights from Evan's last day as well as some from our visits with family and friends will hopefully be up soon--I'm working on it!
